E-NDMS
Wednesday, December 3 Postmortem -- Mea Culpa
As everyone who accessed E-NDMS on Wednesday knows, it was ridiculously slow, arguably slower than it has ever been. While evaluating some temporary options to get back to where we were last week, I tried to edit a file on the new server and got a "disk full" error message. After further investigation, I found the disk was indeed full due to the database driver being in Debug mode.
Mea Culpa: On Sunday night when I was finishing the move to Amazon, I noticed a problem with some transactions. In an attempt to investigate, I turned on debugging in the database driver. It appeared not to work because the file I specified wasn't created. Fast-forward 3 days, and I believe now the driver ignores the file name but honors the debugging option.
Anyway, it's a lesson learned the hard way, and I apologize for the inconvenience it caused everyone. If the system remains stable for a few more work days, we may shelve the project I was working on in favor of continuing our efforts on improvements to the E-NDMS user interface.
