E-NDMS
Wednesday, December 3 Postmortem -- Mea Culpa
As everyone who accessed E-NDMS on Wednesday knows, it was ridiculously slow, arguably slower than it has ever been. While evaluating some temporary options to get back to where we were last week, I tried to edit a file on the new server and got a "disk full" error message. After further investigation, I found the disk was indeed full due to the database driver being in Debug mode...a setting I made late Sunday night while trying to repair a system problem. Now that it is turned off, the system seems much more stable (we survived the lunch rush today) and is performing more like I expected.

A Few Problems Our First Day
We've run into a couple of minor and one major problem on our first day at Amazon.
- Some data integrity code didn't work correctly on the upgraded JAG database and was causing problems with any function that attempted to modify a roster. That was corrected by mid-day.
- The management reports were not running due to a problem with security permissions. That has been corrected, and they are now working.
- Most importantly, we've had some stability problems. Click "Continue Reading" for more technical information, but suffice it to say, this is going to take a few days to sort out. If you get a System Down message while entering data, please wait at least 2-3 minutes without attempting to change pages, and then click Reload on your browser. In most cases, this should allow you to save your data without losing any work. [Read More]

E-NDMS Move Complete
E-NDMS has been moved to Amazon's EC2 service as planned, but a few components of the move presented some challenges. As such, please be prepared for a potentially bumpy ride on Monday. I will be watching the system closely throughout the day for signs of performance or stability problems. If we encounter problems, I will address them as soon as possible. Your continued patience through this process is appreciated.
Be aware that there are no longer 2 E-NDMS sites. You will arrive at the same site regardless of which link you follow. The new site is based on the BETA site that most users have been accessing for the past several months.

E-NDMS Move Taking Place This Weekend
I am assuming traffic on E-NDMS will be low over Thanksgiving so I'm going to take the opportunity to complete the move to the Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud. Availability from tonight through Sunday night will be limited. We plan to be back online Monday morning.[Read More]
